God has given us a vision to see the city of Atlanta completely transformed and redeemed for Him..we want to reach out to the core of this city and call them out to all of God's potential..our cities are so gifted in so many ways, but Satan has just taken over and we need to do something about that!! The world is looking at our cities for influence...how are we influencing the world?? We need to do something about it!!!
It's impossible to get a true perspective on a country without learning about its major cities. Cities form the mind and heart of a nation. In them are the nation's centers of business, government, education, arts and religion. The land between cities - great as it may be - prospers only as it serves the needs of the urban centers.
As we think of discipling nations, we must firmly grasp this reality. We must bring Jesus' light to even the dirtiest, darkest places in our cities. They may seem like looming giants, but cities can be changed. The gospel can transform their spiritual, philosophical and physical life. If we don't reach out to the cities, we will certainly fail in our battle for the heart and soul of the nation. We are praying that God does some amazing things thru this School of Evangelism. We know it is so much on God's heart and we're excited to see all that happens..
So, what's gonna happen during the school?? What's different about this SOE as to others at other YWAM bases??
WELL.......
We are definitely going to be focusing on Urban Missions..so, our weekly evangelism will be downtown Atlanta once to twice a week(right now our base is located about 45 min. east of downtown, but we are praying to have a permanent staff team living downtown SOON!! if you're familiar with cities, you'll realize that they are VERY spread out!)..we will be doing everything from working with kids; street evangelism; we're hoping and praying to have some sort of cafe/hang out night downtown to be able to reach out to people; and much MUCH more..this city is full of opportunities..
We will also have some lecture weeks on how to reach out to cities. Right now we are planning to hit up Miami for a couple weeks in the middle of lecture phase, too. Our desire is to see what is going on in other cities as well and reach out in any way we can!! We might be hittin' up some other cities as well, but we're still praying about it.
